Sacrificial Front Skid Plate

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

Up here in the Northwest corner of the United States, June hosts the No Alibi rally, put on by the Rainier Auto Sports Club, to which a good number of TeamD members belong. Some of us participated in the rally while others were involved in the organization/running of the event. I will leave it to others to talk about keeping on time and on route as I was the designated scoring chauffeur(1). ———————————– (1) I drove Steve around the weekend so he could concentrate on gathering the scores and keeping the running totals up to date. He did a great job and once again Rainier was able to keep the scoring time to a minimum. (2) I’ve ordered another skid plate from Paul at Primitive Enterprises and this time I am going for the more substantial 3/16” thick model instead of the 1/8” I originally got.

TeamD recommends: Carhartt

Some people have a vision that road rallies are high brow events for pretty cars on pretty roads. And most important, this is a jacket that I don’t feel bad about bumping the dirty fender or mind laying on the ground in to inspect or fix the car.

Revived at Goodwood

Sometimes an event appears that makes one think about charms and luck and all the hocus pocus in the world might be right. Legends Haven’t had time to put together many photos or much video yet as I’m packing up to return to Seattle in a few minutes.

TeamD Recommends: New Leaf Cafe

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

P1120729The Alcan Rally stopped in Burns Lake, British Columbia today and TeamD rally competitors Marinus and Renee Damm bought lunch for all rally competitors and staff at the New Leaf Cafe. The cafe owner Nathan is an old friend of Marinus’ and how could we pass through without stopping to visit.

It would be easy to say that any free lunch is a good lunch but our host Marinus is only the starting point of the story. I might guess it was filtered and chilled, showing attention to every detail.

The other sandwiches were equally well received. Roast beef, salmon with artichoke heart, and vegetarian options were all receiving raves.

Someday you will find yourself in Burns Lake, perhaps on the way to the Alaska Ferry in Prince Rupert, to ski in Smithers, or just to take a little drive.
