The TeamD Trophy Case

TeamD doesn’t just seek challenges, they seek to master them. Winning is good.

Here is a summary of what’s on our trophy shelves and what we’re most proud of. Friday Nighter events are only listed for first place finishes.

2008 Highlights

A full slate of TeamD cars, four in all, competed in the grueling Alcan 5000 rally, nine days from Kirkland to the Arctic Ocean and back to Jasper, AB. All four teams finished in the top 8 positions, with Marinus and Renee nabbing first in class IE and Dan and Hans with a first in class IV (2wd). In April Marinus and Renee swept the Raindrop Rally with a first in class and overall following up with top finishes at a number of other events (a Friday Nighter in October and Monster’s Revenge) and Marinus teamed with brother Anton to take the top prize at Gold Digger in July. Marvin and Jeff ended the season with yet another podium finish in the Pacific Coast Challenge, nabbing the third overall spot in this challenging series.

2007 Highlights

Everyone was impressed with Carlson and Kraushaar’s Thunderbird overall win in the Historic class Saab Sonnet. So much so that while we had as much or more fun than anyone else, our results were out of the running. Getting practice working together, Dan and Hans attended a variety of events to dial in their Unlimited class skills, finally getting an overall win in the challenging August Friday Nighter. Jeff and new navigator Joe followed that up with a class win in the September Friday Nighter. Dan and Hans headed down to Oregon for the Oregon 1000 and managed to come in 3rd unlimited. Night on Bald Mountain in October saw Eric and Steve coming in second in Unlimited with Jeff and Joe coming in third in Equipped, pipped by future teammates Marinus and Renee who came in second. Jeff and Marvin took first overall at the Armageddon rally held out of Concrete, WA. Marinus and Renee followed their 2nd equipped at NoBM with a class win in the rain and mud.

2006 Highlights

As usual, our rally year began with the venerable Thunderbird Rally in British Columbia. This is the best-attended and most competitive TSD event anywhere near our area. In 2006 Dan and Ryan won 3rd in their class. Next up was Coast to Coast, on Vancouver Island, BC, where Jeff and Marvin finished 3rd in class. TeamD fielded a number of cars at the distant Golden West National SCCA rally in California, where Jeff and Marvin won first overall and Dan and Ryan nabbed first in their class. The Ketchum paved TSD in Washington awarded Hans and Dan first in their class, with Hans driving in his first ever touring rally while Eric and Steve took 3rd in their class. October’s Night on Bald Mountain was near Olympia, WA, where Eric and Steve won first overall. They followed this up with a long-awaited win at the challenging Totem rally in British Columbia, with a grin-inducing first place overall. On the rain-soaked Armageddon Rally in Northern Washington, Dan and Ryan swam to first in class. Jeff and Marvin made it four years in a row on the podium for the Pacific Coast Challenge by taking second place once again.

2005 Highlights

The frigid Thunderbird rally in BC caused little difficulty for Eric and Steve, where they found themselves with a second place class/overall finish. In May Jeff and Marvin piloted the Subaru on the punishing Coast to Coast rally to a first place overall result. They followed this up with a second in class and overall finish at the SCCA Golden West rally in California, where Dan and Glenn followed suit with a second in their class as well. TeamD cleaned up at the Night on Bald Mountain event which in 2005 was located in the central Cascade foothills. Jeff and Marvin were awarded first overall, Eric and Travis followed a close second in class and overall, while Dan and Ryan won their class and ended up 3rd overall. Eric and Steve wrapped up the year with a second place finish at Totem with some heavy competition. Jeff and Marvin took enough points through the year in unlimited class to garner a second place trophy in the Pacific Coast Challenge.

2004 Highlights

This was a busy year, starting with Armageddon Redux, delayed from the normal early winter running due to washed out roads. Eric and Steve finished 2nd here, preparing for the famous Alcan rally, where they had a 2nd place class result under intense competition. Some of the Friday Nighter finishes were satsifying for TeamD where Eric and Steve nabbed first in class finishes for April and September, and Dan and Marvin got a class win in June. The Sno-Git paved touring rally awarded Eric and Steve a first place award, after piloting the roads of Snohomish and Skagit counties. A resurrected Golden West National SCCA event in California saw Jeff and Marvin finishing a satisfying first in class and second overall. Dan and Marvin, in the green Saab’s first competition, completed Mountains to the Sea rally with a second place class finish. Jeff and Marvin wrapped up 2004 at Totem in British Columbia with an award for winning second place in their class, good enough for them to secure First Place in the Pacific Coast Challenge for the second year straight.

Here’s a key to the classes:
UNL is Unlimited, meaning any measuring or timing equipment allowed. Called Equipped in SCCA events
EQU is Equipped. Sometimes called Calculator or Limited. Generally a calculator and accessory odometer allowed
SOP is Seat of Pants, where only stock odometer and pencil and paper (hah!) is used. Called Paper in BC or Stock in SCCA
NOV is Novice class where equipment is usually same as SOP.
Alcan 5000 classes are even more unique:
Class I is sedans with unlimited equipment.
Class IE is sedans with limited (but still non-stock) gear
Class II is for SUVs with unlimited equipment
Class III is any vehicle with stock equipment
Class IV is for any 2WD vehicle, unlimited equipment
