Rally of the Sick Patrol

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

If you havn’t heard about sick people on the 2008 Alcan maybe you were reading about some other alcan rally (perhaps you’re reading our 2004 blog). My last four days of this Alcan were experienced thru a coughing flu-ie haze. I still had a great time, I just whined more than usual. No one will admit to being the carrier who brought the disease on our little road trip. My suspicion is that it was a potent cocktail of cold and influenza strains from around the country. People who had already been sick this winter were not totally immune, although they did get away a lot easier than those of us who had kept our hankies clean this year. Ace navigator and member of the winning team, Russ Kraushaar got sick and had to miss the trip north to the edge of the continent. On the plus side, this is definitely the first Alcan Rally where i’ve lost weight. One thing’s for sure …

As everyday life starts to seep in the forefront, it’s hard not to try to relive parts of the trip. We really lucked out with the weather.

First Tale Meets The First Critic

We arrived in Portland on a beautiful Spring-like day. Pulled the car to a stop, finally, in front of the house, and slowly uncoiled ourselves from those form-fitting seats. I’m not afraid to admit that she and I are from different generations, and I confess I missed the cultural wave that brought new meaning to “random”, so I’m not exactly sure what she meant. But it troubled me a bit because I caught a hint of the pejorative in the word.

We’re home, too

We made it home to Portland. Edit by driver/mechanic: funny noises seem to have been loose valves.
