Congrats to Satch and Russ

Once again Satch Carlson and Russ Kraushaar have schooled us all at how to run a rally. On top of that they did it in a vintage Saab with a number of issues. They accrued a measly 13 points for two days while the second place car had 20.

We passed their little red Sonnett limping into town on Saturday. They had a new style of “independent rear suspension”. Something wasn’t connected to something else that should be connected to the car. Luckily it fell apart in the right way and gravity kept it together enough to finish the day and make it to the hotel. Eric had bolts they needed in the iX’s spares kit and they were able to patch the Sonnett up for the rest of the rally.

This year’s Thunderbird rally was luxuriating in the number of workers. It seemed like half of mainland BC was out there timing us at every icy uphill windy bit. Well done BC Rally folk (and a few Washington rallists too).

Congratulations to Satch and Russ, Peter and Timothy Ryce for 2nd place, and Lee and Rod Sorensen for their 3rd place “Return to BC” finish.

Satch and Russ did an absolutely incredible job, winning a challenging event in a 36 year old car against some very capable competition. Kudos as well to the Ryces in their ’88 Mazda. Gotta love it when the newer Subies get served!
